Trade Pile 001: Attempt at a New Feature

Trade Pile 001
26 Jun 2022

So here is a feature that I have been thinking of doing for a bit, but haven't committed to since it requires somewhat frequent updating. It is a way to lighten the load of my card hoard. It is based on a concept that Chris at Nachos Grande Blog calls his "Trade Stack". He has been doing it for years (sent out 105 stacks) and a few other bloggers have similar deals.

The concept is simple I will post a card or cards I have up for trade and the first person to claim the "pile" in this post's comments will receive them all. The golden rule with this is that you must offer at least one card off of my wantlists. See My Master Want List on this blog or My Wantlist at TCDB*. If you don't have a card off of my lists I will also accept Pre 1986 Vintage Baseball or Football and Non-Sport from 1960s to 1970s. Please let me know what you intend to send.

After awhile I will add another card or two to the "Pile" (or "Stack") of unclaimed cards until the pile gets claimed.

To test the waters here is the first card for the Pile:

2016 Bowman Draft - Chrome Baseball:
BDC-29 Justin Dunn Mets

*TCDB link goes to my TCDB profile, to see the wantlist go to Collection, then Wantlist.

This is slightly different than my regular CK42 Trade Post posts. some of those cards are still available and have been sitting for sometime.

Fearsome Foursome Fan Faves

For collectors of vintage cards this design is an homage to the 1966 Topps Football design, which in turn is sort of an homage to the 1955 Bowman Baseball design. The most prominent feature is the wood grain look with the television screen image. In 2005 Topps produced an All-Time Fans Favorites Football set (although the TradingCardDataBase lists these as being 2004) The All-Time Fans Favorites set is similar to the Topps Archives type sets where they use older and vintage card designs for newer cards. Most of the designs from this set appear to be from the 1980s and late 1970s.

Here is a 4 card subset from that set the features the best players from my fave (and by fave I mean tied for number one) NFL team the Los Angeles Rams recently returned from being in St. Louis for 20 years (1995-2015). These four players individually had impressive careers primarily played for the Rams together they were known as the FEARSOME FOURSOME. OK one of a few defensive lines that went by that name, but the Rams were perhaps the most widely known. The Giants, Lions and Chargers have also had that nickname applied to their defensive line around the 1950s to 1970s era.

The Rams Fearsome Foursome were: Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, Merlin Olsen and Rosey Grier. In my book they are the FEARSOME FOURSOME of note.

2005 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites Football - 58 Lamar Lundy
Dag-nab-it I thought I had straightened/rotated this back image

Trading Thursday: A Fifth Of February

 TRADING THURSDAY:
04 Feb 2016
UPDATED: 26 Sep 2018

Oops I goofed on the title for this week. I was thinking Thursday was the fifth for some reason. It is only the fourth.

OK so my followers count is now back up to 100. Yay and all that. Regarding trading I do admit I still owe a few people some packages from either an outstanding trade agreement from way back or contest winnings lot or what-have-you. It nags at me from time to time and the nagging is getting more intense. For the most part I know who I owe but there are a few I need to double check what it is I need to send. If you think I owe you some cards contact me and remind me what I am supposed to be sending your way.

This Week's Offerings:
Yeah that says what it means.

I am just going to list a whole bunch of cards right now. I won't post individual scans as my original concept of this series of posts was to be. Over time it would be too much of a chore and I would be limited to how many cards I could mention in a post. I can scan on request if needed.

A 2x3 Six Pack PWE

It pays to sign up for things. Jeff at 2x3 Heroes has a mailing list you can sign up for via a special form link he calls Club PWE. If you don't mind getting base cards of your homie team in a PWE it is worth signing up for. It seems to be totally random depending on Jeff's whim and whatever he has available at the time of that whim. (I should try some sort of form thing sometime if I can figure out how to do it) Anyway it is amazing how six cards can be loaded into a PWE.

Here is the six pack I got:
2007 Bowman Heritage Baseball: 106 Felipe Lopez Nationals
2004 Upper Deck Play Ball Baseball: 101 Luis Matos Orioles
2000 Bowman Baseball: 310 Ryan Minor Orioles
2009 Topps Attax Baseball: No Number Lastings Milledge Nationals (#133 in alphabetical lists)
2011 Topps Heritage Baseball: 186 Rick Ankiel Nationals
1995 Pinnacle Baseball:  188 Brady Anderson Orioles

Thanks for the cards Jeff!

Some of these I might show individually sometime. The Nationals I'll show on my CurlyW Cards blog sometime, maybe separate, maybe as a group.

A Kirk Of A Different Color

In recent years I really haven't been too big on Chrome cards and even less thrilled about the Refractors which are Chrome cards on steroids. Back in the 1980s or late 1970s when the companies were experimenting with Chrome and Hologram cards I thought they were pretty cool, that was until they started overdoing them like everything else in the "Junk Wax Years". I do have a thing for parallel cards and variants. These days it seems the card companies are cranking out more parallels that are only slightly parallel rather than true variants, and very little base. Sometimes it is hard to tell what exactly is different. OH the background is light tan instead of light gray, Ah his name is in silver leaf instead of gold leaf, took me 10 minutes to figure that one out.

Well I saw a parallel chrome refractor on auction at sportlots.com that was a beaut. Fortunately it is even more of a beaut in real-life.

Here are the details: As I said, and as you can see by the logo at the top of this post, I got it from sportlots.com via their 1...2...3...Auctions. I got it for the opening .25¢ bid + $1.95 shipping. The shipping charges were about right for how it was sent. Not like those slime balls who charge $3.00+ for shipping and then send in a PWE with only a stupid "card saver" to supposedly protect the card. This one was in a medium sized, medium cardboard stock envelope/packet about the size of a medium wedding invitation or birthday card. The card appropriately in a penny sleeve in toploader. The order/packing slip was wrapped around the card. The card is 2012 Bowman Baseball Chrome 24 Kirk Nieuwenhuis RC Mets Purple Parallel #045/199. As I said sweet very sweet looking. Here take a gander at it.

2012 Bowman Chrome 24 Kirk Nieuwenhuis RC Mets Purple Parallel #045/199
(Front and Back)

I guess I probably should get the flagship Bowman base and the base Chrome of this card, maybe go for a master rainbow of it. I am warming up a little to chrome and refractors, even a little to the Game Used cards. I still hate the game used and artifact cards concept of cutting up memorabilia into tiny little inch squares, but am starting to appreciate them a little more than I once did.

BGBB1: Bowman

BLOG GROUP BOX BREAK #1
BOX ONE: 2007 BOWMAN
 Date Busted 06 February 2013
(Break video on USTREAM
(Scans)
NOTE: Bowman is not my most favorite of products this modern version of all rookies and prospects used to confuse the heck out of me, but it is a very popular product that is why I chose to open it. For the video it looks like I rambled on a bit much and I think the end of the video cut off near the last few packs (or maybe not). Not sure of exact spot so the pack-by-pack commentary will have the full details of the pulls. Overall it was pretty good, we did get the 1 Prospects Autograph in pack one. Things looked a little brighter as I was going through cataloging for the color commentary. At first I thought the box was a dud, but when I started documenting what we had gotten I noticed the Auto was in pack one and we got not only the Dice K Rookie but the gold parallel of it.
