The cards listed in this series of posts are for trade or sale. If I don't mention a price feel free to give a reasonable offer. In some cases I might just feel like giving the cards away to a good home that will appreciate them. Not that I don't appreciate them, but the cards I list no longer fit into the scope of my collection. I don't "trash" cards anymore. It makes me cringe when I hear people talking about throwing trading cards into the garbage. If I can't find a home for cards I no longer want, I will have to toss them into the recycle bin. I can't have them cluttering up my trading card hoard.

Strive For '65 Saturday: 7 The Card Way

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
20 Oct 2018
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 278/598 (280/600) 46.8%

Here is the link to my last update from May. I thought I was getting better with updating this project, but seem to be running about the same every 5 or 6 months or so a handful of new cards. At this rate I won't even be 3/4 finished by the 75th Anniversary. The next milestone though is the half way mark. Any bets on if I'll make that in the next 2 months? I really wanted to get this posted last week (Sat 13 Oct), but barely got the cards scanned then. Now I will barely get it out on this Saturday. On with the cards.

Thursday 04 Oct 2018:

I got 5 cards from the 1965 set from a Sportlots auction for $2.25 plus shipping $1.99 I knew from the start that a couple were duplicates, but I need the rest and the needs outnumbered the haves.

81 Don Buford White Sox
(Duplicate)

112 Derrell Griffith RC Dodgers
(Duplicate)

199 Bob Heffner Red Sox

269 Frank Bolling Braves

358 Albie Pearson Angels

Yes the bottom edge on the back of the Albie Pearson card is off-center there is just a little blue on the bottom. Eek I actually did crop a little too much as well, but not a whole lot.

Friday 05 Oct 2018:

One Sportlots Auction 2 card lot one team $1.25 plus 99¢ shipping. Both cards were needed.

418 Johnny Edwards Reds

530 Jim Maloney Reds

Strive For '65 Saturday: Is One Twin Still A Twin?

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
23 Sep 2017
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 265/598 (267/600) 44.6%

Here is the link to my last update.

Sigh I wanted to originally post this last week a week after I had gotten the first card. I got myself hung up on procrastinating on the scanning of that card. Now I have since gotten two more cards to add to the mix.

So I wonder? Is a Single Twin still a Twin? OK just playing of course they are. This particular Twin card is a player who begin his major league career with The Washington Senators (1.0) and continued on with The Minnesota Twins. Had a 13 season career with the same franchise.

Saturday 02 Sep 2017:
From a Sportlots auction for 25¢ + 69¢ shipping. The shipping is for just this card, I won two other 25¢ auctions from the same seller so I got 3 cards in one PWE the total shipping was $3.37. One of those cards I'll mention on my Curly W Cards blog sometime. The third I should mention here under my Name Niche PC feature.

180 Bob Allison Twins

Tuesday 19 Sep 2017:
I had recently ordered a bunch of cards off of Sportlots oddly though these two cards came from some auctions I bid on just after I had placed that order. They are from two auctions from a seller I had bid on 8 auctions. 2 of those auctions were for a lot of 8 cards so all total I got twenty-two 1960s vintage Baseball and Football cards from that seller. The shipping was highway robbery at $8.52 and all the auctions I got the cards for 25¢ each except these two of course which I got for 75¢ each . They were the only 2 auctions from the batch that had another bidder on it and it was the same bidder for both auctions who upped the price to 50¢, and my max bid got me to the 75¢ winning bid. If I hadn't bought from this seller before I would have suspected shilling, but I'm guessing it was a rookie buyer just bidding the minimum bid price without selecting a "max" bid number. Anyway here are those two cards:

89 Mike Hershberger White Sox

98 Bob Miller Dodgers

Strive For '65 Status Saturday: Been SportLotin'

 Current card count: 246/598 (248/600) 41.5%

As I mentioned last status update post (the first of this kind of post sort of) I did some ordering on Sportlots. The first cards that came in (last Saturday of curse the day my last update was posted) were all from one dealer at $1.00 each. There were five more modern cards with them from the 2003 Topps Bazooka set, but that doesn't matter here for this post. This post and any later posts will only mention cards from the 1965 Set build, even if it was just one card from a box of thousands.

I will list the cards newest arrivals listed first and grouped as they came.

Not all had 1965 cards, but I got a total of 13 cards to add to this set. Strive For '65: 1964 World Series Sub Set

Strive For '65: Joy Of A Complete Sub Set:
1964 World Series Sub Set

I am falling behind in this Strive for '65 quest of mine. It is looking like I will not complete it in time. However, at the beginning of August (Friday 01 Aug 2014) I received a package from a member at TCZ for the Summer Secret Santa trade thing they had. It is one of those gift exchange things where you are given another members wants/needs and you send them a package anonymously. Along with 4 Washington Nationals cards my Santa sent 17 cards from the 1965 Topps Baseball set. This lot of almost 50 year old card goodness yielded not only the remaining card (#41 White Sox Rookie Stars: Bruce Howard and Marv Staehle) to finish my first Joy of a Completed Page for the set, but also the final key card (#
134 1964 World Series Game 3: Mantle's Clutch HR
) to the 1964 World Series Subset.

Here is the World Series Subset fronts and backs by themselves. I won't babble on about the individual cards as I will probably do that when I complete the two pages that they are a part of.

1965 Topps Baseball 1964 World Series Sub-Set Cards 132-139
(Fronts and Backs)
Note card 138 on the back has a red mark through the card number. I would eventually like to upgrade that card but it is not as big a priority as trying to complete the dang set is.

Strive For '65: Joy of the First Complete Page 5

The Joy Of A Complete Page: 1965 Topps First Edition
(Page 5: Cards 37 - 45)

Thanks to a "Secret Santa in July" Package I received on Friday 01 August 2014 my Strive for '65 project gained 17 cards and I completed my first full page for the set. There are still four pages that don't have any cards at all, but page number 5 (Cards 37-45) is now complete. It also provided the final World Series card for that subset (I have a post for that subset scheduled for tomorrow) and OH the creative wrapping was a photocopy of a 1965 Topps Baseball wrapper. One of these days I'd love to get a real wrapper but this copy from a website acts as the cover for my 1965 Topps Baseball Binder.

CARD 37: Fred Gladding Tigers.

CARD 38: Jim King Senators.
Jim was with Washington from 1961-1967

CARD 39: Gerry Arrigo Twins.

Gerry was with the Twins from 1961-1964 he was then traded to the Reds.

CARD 40: Frank Howard Dodgers.

Frank was traded to Washington in 1965 and was part of the 1972 Inaugural Texas Rangers team.

CARD 41: White Sox 1965 Rookie Stars:
Bruce Howard (No Relation to Frank) and Marv Staehle.

Bruce went on to join the Senators in 1968. Marv would join the Montreal Expos in 1969 - 1970

CARD 42: Earl Wilson Red Sox.

CARD 43: Mike Shannon Cardinals.

CARD 44: Wade Blasingame Braves.

CARD 45: Roy McMillan Mets.

Current set total: 194/598 (196/600) 32.8%

Since I am a Washington Baseball fan I note any connections to Washington Baseball (Senators, Nationals, Expos, Twins, Rangers etc...)
