Collectible Card Club

 Where oh where to begin?

Many card collectors maybe aware of Collectible Card Club a subscription box service. As a member each month they will send you a box of unopened packs of cards. They have the 4 major US sports: Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Hockey plus Soccer and Gaming. They offer a selection of 3 membership tiers: Silver 5 packs $24.95, Gold 10 packs $42.95, Platinum 15 packs $60.95. You can choose which individual sport flavor you want or a 3 sport Baseball, Football & Basketball box. Plus you choose from Vintage (1999 on back to probably early 1980s. I think they have stated 1983 is as far back as they have gone), or Modern (2000 and up), or a mix of the two.

Now here is where things get interesting. Almost 3 years ago, back in Sept 2019 I received a box from The CCC. I did not order the box it was sent to me as a sort of promo for bloggers I think. I don't recall if I received an email or responded to some promo they were having but anyway I currently have a box sitting unopened still in it's yellow/orange mailing package. I had planed on doing a spectacular blog post about opening it that was to include a video busting the box and the subsequent packs inside, including scans of everything during the process. I nixed that idea due to all the time it would take to work on it.

Flashforward to recent months as I have seen more and more UTube videos and blog posts of others busting these boxes and repack products like Repacked Wax and well I got the bug for it. So I set up a Platinum Vintage Baseball sub and a Gold Vintage Football sub. This way it is less likely I will get brands that I don't particularly like such as Chrome, & Draft editions. There may be a few as those trends started in the 1990s. Anyway for brands I don't like I will put those packs aside as traders or toss them up on Ebay maybe.

My first two subscription boxes arrived Friday 10 June. So now I am a Collectible Card Club Card Carrying Member even though I probably shouldn't spend so much on it..

I was going to include one of my first CCC Box Breaks for this post but I haven't started opening them yet. I have 3 to do sometime soon.

Trade Pile 001: Attempt at a New Feature

Trade Pile 001
26 Jun 2022

So here is a feature that I have been thinking of doing for a bit, but haven't committed to since it requires somewhat frequent updating. It is a way to lighten the load of my card hoard. It is based on a concept that Chris at Nachos Grande Blog calls his "Trade Stack". He has been doing it for years (sent out 105 stacks) and a few other bloggers have similar deals.

The concept is simple I will post a card or cards I have up for trade and the first person to claim the "pile" in this post's comments will receive them all. The golden rule with this is that you must offer at least one card off of my wantlists. See My Master Want List on this blog or My Wantlist at TCDB*. If you don't have a card off of my lists I will also accept Pre 1986 Vintage Baseball or Football and Non-Sport from 1960s to 1970s. Please let me know what you intend to send.

After awhile I will add another card or two to the "Pile" (or "Stack") of unclaimed cards until the pile gets claimed.

To test the waters here is the first card for the Pile:

2016 Bowman Draft - Chrome Baseball:
BDC-29 Justin Dunn Mets

*TCDB link goes to my TCDB profile, to see the wantlist go to Collection, then Wantlist.

This is slightly different than my regular CK42 Trade Post posts. some of those cards are still available and have been sitting for sometime.

Strive For '65 Saturday: Stormin' The Sportlots Castle

In a recent splurge of purchases from Sportlots I got more cards for my Strive for '65 set build, plus a few other years, but the bulk was the '65s. I ordered about 26 cards for the set from 4 different sellers with the cost per card ranging from 34¢ to $6.99 this round. Unbeknownst to me one of them was a duplicate (The Phillies Rookie Stars my previous one is in better condition as this one has writing on the back). Conditions ranging from good to excellent. Some of the cards I went for the cheap "good" condition to save some money and for a few of them paid the price as you will see. Those cards I will need to upgrade at some time, a few of them I can tolerate. ARGH and ACK. Usually I do pretty well with unseen poorer conditioned cards there. Then again I don't often lower to the "good" level. I probably will not from here on.

STRIVE FOR '65 STATUS:
25 Jun 2022
Strive for '65 | 1965 Set Build | Master Want List
Current card count: 329/598 (55%) or 331/600 (55.2%)

For those of you wondering YES I am STILL BUILDING THIS DANG SET. I don't have the luxury of having a huge blog fandom where you mention you are building a vintage set and within a few months or maybe even weeks BAM It's Complete. I'm lucky if I get one lousy offer to purchase one card for the set, let alone any freebies.

CaptK's Coveted 10 Updated

CaptKirk42's Coveted 10
Updated 23 Jun 2022

I usually don't make special posts about updates but since I don't get much traffic on this blog because I only post once in a while at a bare minimum of one post a month I decided to yack it up. On my righthand hand sidebar I have this list of my Current 10 Most Coveted "Search and Destroy" for Cards. I also have a static page for it here. I update it periodically when the cards on it come in. For several months numbers 6 through 10 were TBD as I hadn't assigned new cards to look for yet. Well I filled in the spaces. I also updated my Master Want List.

Here is the latest updated detailed list
  1. 1998 Inkworks Lost in Space Autograph Card: A-2 Lacy Chabert as Penny Robinson - For some reason this one has insane prices. I missed out on one a few years back that was just under $50, still a bit much for me but I should have jumped on it.
  2. 1971 Fleer Laughlin World Series: 23 Pirates/Senators 1925 WS - This card should probably be over at Curly W Cards on that list but I need more than just Senators from this set. Plus they lost that series.
  3. Any 1965 Topps Baseball still on my Wantlist. (Set Build Post)
  4. 1975 Topps Baseball 228 George Brett RC Royals - I know this is one of the most sought after cards  of this set, and tends to be super expensive. Then again the Robin Yount RC is also a hot super expensive Rookie card of this set, but I managed to get that one for a good low price.
  5. 2003 Bazooka Baseball 7 Bazooka Joe Bazooka Logo - Silver Variant
  6. 1987 Topps ALF Sticker 10 "A Whisker For Your Thoughts" - Puzzle Back left corner blue puzzle
  7. 2004 Donruss World Series - Fans of The Game FG-2 Stan Lee
  8. 1991 Pro Set - WLAF Inserts 30 Mike Riley CO San Antonio Riders
  9. 1992 Lime Rock Pro Cheerleaders NNO Los Angeles Raiders Checklist
  10. 1978 Topps Mork & Mindy 4 "You're in good hands with Ork State!"
A collecting goal of a set build of 2003 Topps Bazooka Baseball 7 Joe Bazooka sub-set I have all the regular base of card number 7. On my main want list I have what I need of the minis (25/31) and the Silver (31/31) variants..

Check frequently as I update this list as I get these cards. If you have a card on the list please mention the exact card not it's number on the list. When I get a card that is on the list I remove it from the list, move up the cards that were below it and add a new card to the bottom of the list at #10, so the top card (card #1) will eventually be the card that has spent the most time on the list.

Here are a few white whale cards that should be on this list but are not and probably never will be, mostly due to them being way out of reach price wise:

1975 Topps Baseball 228 George Brett RC Royals (Currently on list at #4)
1976 Topps Football 148 Walter Payton RC Bears
1986-87 Fleer Basketball 57 Michael Jordan RC Bulls
2012 Topps Archives Baseball (1984 Style) 241 Bryce Harper RC Nationals SSP
